Paper made by traditional Japanese methods, such as Sekishu Washi, is called "和紙 Washi". Textbook/schoolbook and copy paper that we often see or use are called "洋紙 Youshi” because the method of papermaking using machines was introduced into Japan from Europe in the beginning of the Meiji Era. Theme of this exhibition "Washi (=Japanese paper) and Youshi (=paper made in the Western way) is to compare the difference between them also together with various types of papers from different countries.

『和紙と洋紙』～世界の紙

石州和紙をはじめとする、日本で伝統的な製法で作られた紙を「和紙」と呼びますが、私たちが普段よく目にする教科書やコピー用紙などは、明治時代、西洋から製法が伝わってきたことから「洋紙」と呼びます。この「和紙」と「洋紙」。いろいろな種類を比較展示します。
（洋紙のサンプルとして、ハーネミューレ（ドイツ）、ヴェルケー・ロシニ（チェコ）、ファブリアーノ（イタリア）などの版画用紙の提供と、石州和紙、洋紙による版画作品、石州和紙と他の紙を混ぜて制作した作品の貸与による協力をさせていただきました。）
